Here we are, officially in the holiday season. A favorite time of year, and the first for Rowy. My absence from this journal and my other online platforms throughout the end of summer and most of fall has allowed me to concentrate on fulfilling a humbling amount of orders which came in as a result of the Etsy campaign that I was featured in (1, 2, 3, 4).
I've been chugging along making items as quickly as possible, which has meant no time for new designs or holiday stock prep. That's okay though, because I've still really enjoyed my clay time these past few months, and I've found great accomplishment in checking off outstanding orders from the list, even if only a handful at a time. The most popular item this year: the Ghost Parade Mug.
I'm feeling so lucky for this surprise of a year for my small business, something I am so grateful for this Thanksgiving.
I'm really looking forward to all of the holiday things over the next few weeks with family in this magical city of mine - this time of year providing ample opportunity for merry and memory making.
Next, a quick and silly gratitude list, and then I'm off to pick up our Christmas tree with the boys.
Tiny joys:
Any second that I get to sit on the sofa alone
The rare cuddle from Huxley, our most independent pup
Restaurants that open at 3pm, perfect for families with small children. We took my sister to one of these over the summer and at the end she said thanks for "lunch.. or dinner.. or whatever that was"
Rowy's cheeks and easy smiles
Bath products that smell like an escape when, in the first years of motherhood, showering is a literal escape (looking at you, Ouai St. Bart's, Tatcha Hinoki, and Diptyque Philosykos)
A warm croissant
A really good hair clip
Jasper's love for seed-saving and almond jello dessert. He may look like a clone of Kevin but there's me in there too
The NYC ferry, which I ride to work a couple of times a week, and the total peace that I feel on the water while looking at the skyline
% Arabica Kyoto lattes, Cafe Grumpy honey oat lattes
Neighbors who share garden veggies and plant bulbs
The crispy taro dish at dim-sum. Just look at how involved it is to make
Persimmons. Fresh dates. Cherries. Figs from our tree
The heirloom tomato and aioli sandwich at Cafe Plein Air, the cake (any cake) from Salty Lunch Lady's Little Luncheonette
Public libraries
Podcasts to fall asleep to
Chilled red wines
